Team members with access to the BoxOffice app can connect a Stripe Terminal reader and accept in-person card payments through the host’s connected Stripe account. You do not need to sign in to the host’s Universe account.
Your host must grant you the Access to At-the-Door via the BoxOffice app permission before you can use this feature.

Important: set aside ~30 minutes before selling starts to get your reader connected. Updates and pairing can take a few minutes to complete.
Before you start
- The event must be connected to a Stripe Connect account.
- You must be using the BoxOffice app on an iPhone or iPad, with Bluetooth turned on.
- Make sure your reader is charged and powered on. The M2 and WisePad 3 terminal readers are supported.
Step 1 — Set up card payments in Settings
- Go to Settings > Sell and Scan Settings.
- Tap Card Readers > Stripe Reader.
- Accept the PCI compliance agreement. This appears whenever it's needed, so you may see it again when you reconnect a reader.
- Select the currency of the event you're selling.
- When iOS asks for location access, choose While Using the App. Stripe requires this permission to process in-person payments.
Step 2 — Pair the Stripe Terminal reader from the Sell tab
- Open an event that's connected to a Stripe Connect account, select a ticket, and add it to the cart. This starts the reader connection flow. You will not be charged during this step. Once the reader is connected, you can leave the checkout without completing the sale.
- In the Connect Stripe Terminal window, select your reader.
- Tap Connect, or Update if the reader needs a software update.
- Updates take 5–10 minutes. Keep the app open and the reader powered on and nearby. The reader connects automatically once the update finishes.
- Once connected, you're ready to take payments via the Stripe Terminal reader.
Your reader stays connected for as long as the same user is signed in. If a different team member takes over the device with their own login credentials, they will need to reconnect.
Selling events in more than one currency
A reader is connected for one currency at a time. To sell an event in a different currency, go back to Settings > Sell and Scan Settings, change the currency, and reconnect the reader by repeating Step 2.
If your reader doesn't appear or won’t connect
- Check that Bluetooth is turned on.
- Check that you've selected the right currency in Sell and Scan Settings, and that you're in an event that uses that currency.
- Make sure the reader is charged, powered on, and close to your device.
- If another team member previously used the reader on the same device, sign in with your own credentials and reconnect it.
