Custom Checkout Links: How to customize the behaviour of your event URLs

Easily customize your event URL to trigger specific desired behaviours including pre-applied checkout filters for time of day, ticket type, or group size, opening the modal immediately, or automatically applying a discount code or access key.

Note: Use custom checkout links to streamline your event marketing! If you'd like people who click on a certain ad to be redirected to your website and benefit from a discount code when purchasing tickets.

Note: To set this up, you must have already created a Universe event page.

This article covers selling tickets on your website as well as via your event listing page on universe.com. 

To create a custom checkout link, open your Event Manager > navigate to the Promote tab > click on Custom Checkout Link.

Preselect Filters

If you’re hosting a timed-entry event and have enabled checkout filters (via the Checkout Settings tab), you can pre-apply these filters to a URL by clicking the dropdown under each specific filter. 

Ex. You can apply a filter to show customers only a specific ticket type or a specific time of day.

Preselect Codes

If you’d like to embed specific discount codes, affiliate codes, or access keys to a URL, select the code you’d like to use from the drop down. This way, customers can click the link in a promotional email and automatically have their discount code applied, without having to manually enter their code at checkout.

Advanced Trigger

To set the checkout modal to open immediately when someone accesses the page, toggle the “Advanced Trigger” label on.

Selling via an Embeddable Widget on your own website

If you’re using one of Universe’s embeddable widgets to sell tickets via your own website, toggle the Preferred Website label on. Copy the text created in the Custom Link field below by clicking Copy custom link. Paste this text at the end of your website’s URL to trigger the custom behaviour.

Example: Your website is https://explorenature.com/tickets and you’ve embedded the Calendar widget into this page.

You have a discount code (WILDERNESS) for 25% off tickets. You’ve selected WILDERNESS from the Discount Code dropdown.

Copy and paste ?unii-discount-code=WILDERNESS at the end of your own website URL.

Anyone who clicks the URL https://explorenature.com/tickets?unii-discount-code=WILDERNESS will arrive on your own website with the discount code already applied.

Selling via the Universe Event Page

Select the filters or codes you’d like to apply, then copy the text created in the Custom Link field below by clicking Copy custom link. Anyone who clicks this URL will have the behaviour you’ve selected automatically applied.

Note: If you’d like to create another custom checkout link or have made an error, just refresh the page and start again!

Note: You can use Custom Checkout Links to embed multiple behaviours into your link. For example, if you’d like the checkout modal to open immediately when the webpage is accessed with a discount code and/or access key already applied. Just select the code you’d like to use from the dropdown under Discount Code or Access Key and then toggle on Advanced Triggers.
