At Universe we strive to continually enhance your experience and the experience of your attendees, while adapting to a changing global market. As part of that effort we have made some changes to how our platform operates. Nothing is changing with the functionality that makes Universe great – we will continue to deliver a simple, reliable platform allowing you to distribute tickets to your events.
When are the changes happening?
International: 1 November 2019 (anywhere outside of Canada, and U.S.A.)
What are the changes?
We are adjusting our pricing model to stay current with industry trends. For events that go on sale on or after 1st November 2019, you will notice that the Universe service fee will now have local taxes added based on the location of your event and/or your business registration location, as applicable.
How does this affect me?
Events that go on sale on or before 31 October 2019 will remain at their current pricing.
As the Host, you can still choose whether to stick with the default setting of passing the fee to your buyers, or to absorb the fees yourself.
Passing on Universe Fees
Universe is providing a service to you. As such, if you choose to pass the Universe fees on to the buyer, it becomes part of your sales for which you are responsible for accounting and remitting taxes to the applicable authority.
Local taxes applied to the Universe fee are based on the standard rate of taxes for the event location. If you determine that this rate must be modified when passing the Universe fees on, please contact us for assistance.
As the Host you are responsible for applying local taxes to other amounts charged to buyers, including tickets, add-ons and fees. Our tax tool within the platform provides a great means by which to apply taxes for this purpose.
Reporting and Remitting Local Taxes
You are responsible for reporting and remitting the local taxes collected from the buyers to the applicable taxing authority. This includes the local taxes collected on the Universe fees in cases where you have chosen to pass on the fees to the attendees.
If you want to provide VAT invoices to buyers, please contact support who will be able to assist with adding in the relevant details for you to be able to do this.
